Craignure is where the Oban to Mull ferry terminates on the Isle of Mull. Craignure is worth a visit in its own right, whether you are going as a foot passenger or taking your car across for a longer stay on the island. More information about the ferry can be gained by phoning the Booking Hotline 08000 66 5000 or visiting the Calmac website.
Lochdon is a sleepy hamlet about three miles south of Craignure. Many people just drive through on their way to Iona, but there’s plenty to see here, including what must be the smallest Post Office in the world!
Coming down the hill from Craignure, you get a good overview of the loch, but you’ll have a better view if you turn left to either Gorten, or Grasspoint. Both are narrow roads, so take care, but the views are tremendous, and the wildlife is excellent, and there’s always the chance of an otter. In summer ther are lots of orchids too.
